The skin is amazing – it is the largest organ in our bodies, protecting us from the outside world. Not only that, but it is a lot sturdier than you can imagine! You’ve probably never looked at your skin that way, and there’s a reason why, too. Once we got a little bit into this subject of skin, we noticed that there is a whole lot to talk about here. It seems like every person in the world views their skin in the same way – and pays attention to it only when an issue arises.
While we understand the concept of fixing an issue, constantly taking care of your skin may just be the solution you need. But, even with that in mind, some common skin issues arise all the time. The first thing you need to accept here is that it is okay to have them – we all do. As long as they are not extremely specific and serious, you need to realize that everyone deals with them at least once in their lives.
Now, with that in mind, when something like this happens to your skin, you notice a rash, blemishes, or anything else that doesn’t seem out of the ordinary but still bugs you. The question is, how do you proceed? Do you focus on a certain treatment filled with creams and lotions, or do you walk down the road less traveled?
Natural skin remedies can sometimes be a blessing – actually, they usually are. To take advantage of them, you need to know how to use them properly. By saying that, we are uncovering today's topic – the power of natural remedies and how you can apply them to treat some common skin issues.
Let’s take rashes, for example. These are such a bore. They make your skin feel itchy, and if you scratch, you might leave a permanent scar, which is never good. If you visit a health professional, they may prescribe you something in the form of a cream, a topical lotion, or maybe even some medicine. But when you want to go a different way and treat rashes (or any other common skin issue) naturally, here is what can help.
The best thing about this? You can probably find most (if not all) of these things in your home already!
How do you combat common skin issues naturally?
-
Apply something cold
This is the first and most logical thing to do. If any part of your skin (especially your face) is inflamed, then applying a little bit of cold on it can help calm the area down almost instantly. For instance, you can have some inflamed acne or another common issue where you want to stop the inflammation. This can dramatically help with the swelling. If you don’t know how to do this, here are a few ideas. You can fill a plastic bag with ice and press it against the skin. Alternatively, you can take a damp cloth with cold water and apply it directly onto the inflamed area. A cold compress or just a little bit of cold water can work wonders, too.

Use oatmeal
Oatmeal is often used as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient to treat common skin issues. It can help you if your skin feels rough, dry, or itchy. A lot of people ask how this is done since oatmeal is mostly reserved for breakfast rather than a natural skin remedy. Well, you can take a bath and soak in it for a while. All you need to do is fill up your bathtub with warm water and find colloidal oatmeal (these dissolve in a bath). Add a little bit to the bathtub, soak, and rinse,

The all-powerful aloe vera
Aloe vera contains so many powerful ingredients that people nowadays use it for all kinds of things. It contains antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. While it can heal wounds (and it has been used for that purpose in the past) it can also deal with some minor skin disorders. The magnificent clear gel from the leaves can soothe irritated skin. Naturally, aloe vera is a life-saver whenever you get sunburnt. The cooling effects will provide relief immediately and make you feel so much better! All you need to do is cut open a plant, squeeze the gel out, and apply it directly onto the skin. Before you try using aloe vera, check if you are allergic to it, as many people are. If not, you can freely proceed with using it.
-
Coconut oil is good, too
Coconut oil is – you guessed it – extracted from the meat and milk of coconuts. It has some antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. That’s why it is good to use on the skin, especially if you need some extra moisture. We found that it is also good to use on the scalp. The best option you can choose is virgin (unprocessed) coconut oil. Just to be on the safe side, test it before you apply it to the affected area to see if you are allergic or not.
-
Tea tree oil
Did you know that the tea tree is native to Australia? Originally, it has been used because of its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. This is basically an essential oil, and it can work magic with some skin problems on the face. To use it, however, you need to dilute it first. Use a carrier oil such as coconut or olive oil, and add a little bit of the tea tree oil to it. You can even mix it in your moisturizer. Apply it on the affected areas, but ensure your skin is fully clean. Of course, remember to do a test patch so you can check if you are allergic to it or not.
-
Baking soda
It is incredibly interesting to see that baking soda can be used for more than cooking. You can use it to soothe an upset stomach, clean it, and use it as a natural skin remedy. Because of these properties, this one managed to get its way onto the list. It is truly a household remedy for everything. It can help you deal with bug bites and certain rashes, including ones from poison ivy. Additionally, it can even relieve psoriasis-related inflammation. Just take one or two cups of it and add them to a tub of lukewarm water. Soak in it, rinse, and apply the moisturizer you regularly use. If the affected area is not that big, you can always make a paste – mix a little bit of the water with the baking soda and apply it directly onto the area.
-
ACV
Is there something that apple cider vinegar can’t do? Just like baking soda, it is a fantastic thing to have in your arsenal. ACV is an age-old remedy that can help you deal with some common skin issues. It can reduce itching and can make your skin better. Still, you should know that vinegar by itself is very strong and may cause further damage if not used properly. Dilute it with water before you apply it to your itchy area. In this case, we only have two things to recommend. Firstly, you can use this mixture a few times a week. Second, avoid using it if you are dealing with cracked or bleeding skin.

Try indigo naturalis
We love Chinese herbs because they seem like they are the most potent solution to dealing with skin disorders. Indigo naturalis is just that – a dark-blue powder that can be an effective natural skin remedy, especially for soothing inflammation. Indigo naturalis is usually an ingredient in ointments, and you can easily find it. All you need to do is apply it twice a day to the affected area. However, keep in mind that as a herbal remedy, it can be extremely powerful on the skin’s surface. For that reason, proceed with caution.

Epsom salts
Traditionally, soaking the body in Epsom salts has been known to soothe muscle aches. Epsom salts are also known as Dead Sea salts or magnesium salts. Soaking your skin in it can help you improve the skin barrier's function, retain moisture, and reduce inflammation. Luckily, it is very easy to use. Just add two cups of it to your bathtub, fill it up with water, and soak in it for about 15 minutes. After that, continue your ritual as expected – rinse, dry, and add a little bit of moisturizer to the skin.
There are many cultural traditions when it comes to seeking a remedy to deal with some of the most common skin issues. As you can see from the list, most of them are things you can find in the comfort of your home and are an excellent way to deal with whatever you have going on at the moment. However, there are still a few things we’d like to suggest.
Skin health comes from proper care. That means you should focus on giving your skin what it needs, even when it is not dealing with an issue. Since we are on the topic of natural ingredients, we would like to recommend a few products to get you started. There is no better way to make your skin healthy, shiny, and glowy than by giving it a natural touch.
For that purpose, we are dedicating the following section to give you a list of some of the most wonderful products you can add to your skincare routine. Other than being magnificent, they can help you keep your skin in check and do wonders for it!
Hydrating goat milk and oatmeal handmade soap
If you have very sensitive skin, then this one's for you! As one of the most wanted and nourishing soaps we have, it will give you the time of your life! It is an unscented bar that gently moisturizes and exfoliates your skin. It doesn’t have any fragrances or colors added to it. The proteins found in goat milk can help you soften, whiten, and hydrate your skin. The oatmeal is great if you want to exfoliate your skin and reduce itchiness. Overall, it can give you a more balanced skin appearance and is great for all skin types and susceptible skin.
Mint, tea tree & rosemary handmade soap
The blend of the three essential oils makes this an incredible experience you should not miss out on. If you are dealing with extra dry skin, this is the product you need. And if your skin is itchy and dry – it can work wonders on it! There is a slight scent to this handmade bar of soap, but it is not overpowering. The touch of lavender we have added to it gives it a calming sense, and the chamomile powder we’ve also added works well with any type of irritation to the skin. Experiencing flakiness and extra dryness on the skin? Use this soap to make it all better.
Clarifying charcoal handmade soap
To help you keep your skin and the extra production of sebum under control, we recommend regular use of this soap. There is a slight lemon scent coming out of it due to the natural soap-making process, but there are no added essential oils, colors, or scents to it. This bar of soap can help you tighten your pores, clean them, and leave your skin balanced and glowy. Due to the charcoal, the soap is black. It is a particularly good choice for people who are dealing with acne!
